If i go to emergency room for the depression. Will they accept me? |
If i go to emergency room for the depression. Will they accept me? Most emergency rooms have emergency mental health wings. If you require assistance right away, then they can help you. They will also take steps to ensure that follow up care can be arrainged. Yes if you are a danger to yourself or other people. The person who said No, that it was for immediate physical injuries is right to an extent. They may say that it would be best to go to a mental health facility, but they will accept you if you go in because they do not want to risk your life if you are in immediate danger concerning your mental health. Most likely they will only ask you questions in order to determine if they should refer you to a mental health physician. If you are exibiting signs that there is an immediate danger to your life or the life of others, they may admit you. If you are threatening to hurt yourself or someone else, they will admit you into the psychiatric ward for a minimum of 72 hours. Yes they have to, you only have to go to the crises department. If you allow me to give you an advice, one the secrets for not to be in depression is to go to learn something, take a training, go out and keep yourself very active, go to the meetings in the local church, anything you do will be helpful. Good luck! If you are feeling suicidal, then yes, an emergency room will accept you. However, if you just feel very very sad, then no, they won't. I tried to go in when I had a 110 degree fever and they didn't even accept me. Like a few others have stated above, if You feel suicidal then YES, do Yourself a huge favor and take Yourself there and don't feel like they wont help You, they will take it very seriously. Yes. Depression can lead to suicide, and if you are feeling suicidal, they HAVE to treat you. They can't turn you away. John is wrong. I have known people who have done it, and I almost did it myself. They will accept you. Not very often. They will have you evaluated, and depending on your answers, they may admit you. If you are having thoughts of suicide, or some kind of dementia, they will want to keep an eye on you. They could keep you for 96 hrs, against your will, or you could volunteer to stay, if they think there is just cause. whatever bad thoughts you may be having, just remember you are worth it!!! its worth a shot to try going to the emergency room. by law they can't just let you leave without taking some sort of action. you will get the help you need whether they accept you into that building or not Just to reiterate. If your depression is serious, you will be taken seriously and evaluated. If you are suicidal, you will be admitted. If not, you'll be given a referral for help. Those who say otherwise do not know what they are talking about. Yes they will. You will be referred to a Psych tech and be thoroughly evaluated. If need be you will be taken to an inpatient treatment facility where you will be seen by a psychiatrist who can prescribe some meds for you. It is probably costly though. Yes they will. I have gone to the ER before when I was really depressed and unable to sleep for days on end. They prescribed me with some heavy duty sedatives to go along with the antidepressants I had just started and sent me on my way. "Accept" is the wrong word for this situation. Admit you to the psych ward would be more on the nose. My sister did this, they put her in for 24hrs, drugged her, sent her on her way. If they feel you may harm yourself, they can Baker Act you for 72 hours. If not, they would certainly give you a psychiatric referral. Yes. If you are having trouble, they can help you, and also give you referrals for a more permanent solution. thay can accept you if they think you are suicidal and call a psychiatrist to assess you and try to help you. Only if u tell them u want to hurt ur self or others. Sad I know. if you say or think your about to harm yourself, yes, go right now!! no, emergency room is for physical, immediate and serious injuries. I know depression is physical, but you need a different kind of doctor for that. a free clinic could set you up with a psychiatrist |
