Depression:
Rhodiola rosea or St Johns wort. Stay away from the latter if on prescription medication, or the contraceptive pill, or have an existing hypersensitivity to the sun. St Johns wort increases skin sensitivity to sunlight and interacts with many prescription drugs, resulting in potentially life-threatening sub therapeutic levels of the prescribed drug. Rhodiola is not known to have interactions with drugs.

To help increase the brain cognitive neurotransmitter Acetylcholine (Ach): again take Rhodiola rosea as this acts against the enzyme (cholineserase) that breaks down ACh. Other herbs that inhibit cholinesterase: sage and lemon balm.

Also take omega 3 in the form of fish oil. Its known to have memory boosting effects. Take vitamin E to preserve these essential fatty acids (omega 3) from destruction in the body.

If one has depression and confusion: see a doctor first to rule out any underlying clinical disorder that may require medical attention. Get your hormone levels checked also. Depression and confusion in pre-menopausal women can be linked to a decline in the female hormones.

If you're feeling depressed and confused you should see a doctor to make sure you don't have anything serious wrong with you.

Make sure you're taking a good multi-vitamin and an omega 3 pill. Animal sources like fish oil or krill oil usually work better than plant sources of omega 3's. A omega 3 pill will help with brain function.

There are herbs that you can take for depression like St. John's Wort. St. John's Wort can react with other drugs and hasn't been proven to actually help depression. If your depression continues to get worse while taking it you should seek professional help.

Massage therapy can help with depression by increasing the levels of serotonin and dopamine in your brain and decreasing the stress hormone cortisol. While this does help the effects are only temporary.

You might want to consider seeing a naturpath or an acupuncturist.
