Good ways to stop depression/sadness?

My boyfriend recently broke up with me, and I am feeling pretty bummed about it. Does anyone know any good ways to solve depression, or at least good ways to get your mind of of things? Music, TV and such just makes it worse it seems.

and exercise!

Exercise is an excellent anti depressant.
Distraction is great - make a list of things that you enjoy doing and try get a hobby.
Make plans with friends and see it through.

Alcohol is a major depressant - try to avoid while you are feeling this way. If you feel that this sadness is getting worse, see you GP and talk to him/her about how you are feeling and describe your symptoms.

There is a difference between feeling down and clinical depression. You are feeling low due to circumstances, this will get easier with time. You must try to distract yourself, keep occupied and get a new focus.

What you should do is put on your running shoes, and go to the park, look at the nature, go over things in your head, work up a sweat, you create enofphoines that will make you feel better. Also practise on your breathing, focus and visualise good things happening in your future.
Call a friend up and talk about things that will make you laugh.
Go out and get a new look, a new hair cut, or wardrobe.
Keep your mind occupied by doing chores, going to work, keep busy! Maybe spend the day taking care of kids anything that will make your mind occupied.

Had you been having depressed feelings before this? Or did the breaking up start all these emotions? If all the emotions started since the break-up, I would say it is just sadness, a perfectly normal emotion when something like that happens. You should do something that you and he DIDN'T do, because doing those things will only remind you of him. Same with the songs, don't listen to songs that remind you of him. Like the others have said, it will take time... this isn't something that will magically fix overnight. Pick up the phone and hang out with some friends you haven't hung out with in awhile etc.

i agree with the comment above me.
I do think you are depressed, but I don't think this is clinical depression. Just keep busy, hangout with friends spend more time with family and try to find reasons why you're better off.
Maybe he would be a jerk one day than adoring the next.
You don't need a flaky guy- things like that.

If you build up your confidence and self esteem, you'll be 100 % better

I keep a journal and write down what I am feeling when I am feeling depressed. also you should surround yourself with friends and family. Breakups are tough but this to will pass I promise... Go buy a sexy dress and go out it wont stop the heart but it will make you feel better.

Being just sad, as you should be, is different then depression.
Keep busy, gives you time to put things into perspective.
Who knows that guy might have done you a huge favor?

give it time and you will find a day to smile again
