Do persons with aspergers syndrome suffer often with depression, or is associated much with depression?

Do persons with aspergers syndrome suffer often with depression, or is associated much with depression?

I believe depression is associated. I just read that the crazy astronaut woman who tried to kill her boyfriend's girlfriend has Aspergers and depression, or at least is using it as a defence in her upcoming trial.

YES!
I think because of several reasons.
The inability to read expression.
Feeling different
Living in a world where you feel lost socially

From what I've read these depressive symptoms come along in the teen years. I'm assuming because there is more understanding of the difference between the way peers think and the way the aspergers teen thinks.

I work with people with disabilities and several of my students with aspergers have also suffered from depression. I'm not sure that their statistics are any higher than anyone else, though. Sometimes they are just harder to diagnose.

yes, my brother has both. the conditions seemed to be related. anxiety and panic attacks when faced with situations outside of normal routine seem to be common for him... he threated us with suicide when we sold our house.
