Is Depression a cause for Agoraphobia?

i suffer from depression and recently discovered that i have a minor case of Agoraphobia and i know its only going to get worse.

Fear of open spaces may be a result of depression if you your depression is of recent onset and your agoraphobia was after that. But if you had the agoraphobia for a long time then it is unlikely.
If your depression was a result of some unhappiness that resulted due some injury, harm, loss of a close relative or
loss of a close friend, that occured in relation to an open space this is highly possible.
Even otherwise those with depression develop different phobias..

I know of a mother whose child had been lost at an open market place developing agoraphobia later.

Please meet a psychiatrist and discuss your worries.

OMG, they are TOTALLY related, often the depression is CAUSED by the agoraphobia. They make some new medications for these 2 "illness'" , paxil being one. See a psychiatrist, I wish you luck-I actually tried the paxil, quit it too soon tho. No actually the root of agoraphobia comes mostly from fear and anxiety. However, depression can be a correlation, not a cause and effect, of this fear. This is because you're having feelings of withdrawal and less of an interest to make contact with the social world.

Could be, but it also could be something on it's own. My sister started with depression, started getting a little Agoraphobic and then started having SEVERE panic attacks, even at home, and could barely leave the house at all.

She is on Paxil now and MUCH better.

I have to agree, the agoraphobia and depression can have the same root cause, a traumatic event or chemical imbalance. I have a similar situation.
