Whats the diffrents between depression and manic depression? |
Whats the diffrents between depression and manic depression? Manic depression (or, bipolar disorder) is a condition where the person has periods of mania (meaning extreme feelings of well-being, like they could conquer the world and don't have a worry in the world) and then bouts of depression. Ppl with depression can experience it a few different ways. Some become seriously depressed once and then return to normal functioning. Some get stuck in serious depression (chronic). Some have ongoing mild depression (dysthymia). Some cycle between normal and depressed repeatedly(recurring). It's not unusual for there to be anxiety, too. Some also get psychosis, which is not common. I think that the manic depression you are referring to is the manic episode DURING Bipolar Depression. People with just depression (unipolar) don't have a manic episode. But with Bipolar Depression a person can have manic and depressed episodes. Not pulling up the website info, etc, but basically depression you're just down in the dumps vs. manic depression where you go from depressed to manic (excessive excitement or enthusiasm) and back to depression, more like a roller coaster depression is when you are, like on an "all time low" as in really upset and very unhappy, manic depression is where the person has gone psychotic, still with all the symptoms of normal depression, only the person may be feeling suicidal or going "mental", the person may then want to go to a psychologist, rehab, or a mental institute |
