Are procrastination and perfectionism the result of depression?

Are procrastination and perfectionism the result of depression?

No, not necessarily

I would definitely say procrastinaton is. The more depressed I am, the more I mess around instead of getting on with my 'To Do' list. It is a vicious circle, becuase then everything piles up and becomes stressful, adding to the depression and starting all over again with the procrastination!!

Perfectionism kind of is for me, as the more depressed I get, the more I judge and benchmark myself so I aim to be perfect for me, but not always perfectionist in a competitive sense.

Maybe. Maybe not. Procrastination can simply be a sign of indecision. It can also be a sign of passive-aggression. Lack of energy to do something or not caring about something are more typical signs of depression. Perfectionism is usually about needing to control, often in response to the many things in life that can't be controlled. As far as I know, it's not a sign of depression. But, hey, I'm not an expert.

Yes, both can be due to depression. It seems weird that "perfectionism" would be part of depression, but the feeling of needing to be perfect might stem from the fear of being worthless, which is a big red flag of depression.

Procrastination is a little easier to see how it is related. If you are depressed and feeling tired or sad, you may not do things that you normally do or are supposed to do. For example, when I am depressed my housework does not get done. I simply procrasinate doing anything because I would rather sleep all day.

I think you are talking OCD as the procrastination could be a defence mechanism against intrusive thoughts and fears of certain situations... PEOPLE WITH OCD CAN BE MISDIAGNOSED AS DEPRESSION SUFFERERS

id say yeah, cos most people with eating disorders and self image issues have depression.

I think so too. Pass the pill bottle.

I very much doubt it, they're more likely to be the cause of depression.
