How can I get rid of depression?

I'm fourteen. I don't want to take herbs or medicines cause I'm too young and I know my parents can't afford it. Are there any kinds of foods or other things I can do to get rid of it?

Chocolate has natural anti-depressants in the cocoa. Dark chocolate has more of the good stuff, but some people don't like the less-sugary taste. I love it.
Excercise also releases endorphines. Endorphines are the "happy, feel-good" chemicals your brain makes. Ever heard of a "runner's high"? That's a large dose of endorphines that the brain releases when you excercise to your limit for ten-15 minutes. I ride my bike as fast as I can on the highest gear, and I have a "biker's high" after mayb ten minutes. You can do it with any kind of intense excercise. Running, swimming, biking, etc. You have to build up your muscles first, though, so it may take a month (or less) before that works.
Sex does that too, but you might be too young for that.
Have fun. =)

Find someone who makes you happy or something you can invest time and care into that will not bite you in the ***.

You could take lithium pills, my mom had to take those, she is bi-polar.

Don't freak (it scares em alot too, in fourteen also) but this could be early signs of Bipolar disorder. 14-16 is when is starts being noticable. Ask you self or parents if there has been any signs or diagnosis of depression in your family because i is highly hereditary. It can also be caused or triggered by trauma during early childhood.

Sometimes depression can be alleviated by social interventions to help with isolation or loneliness such as group outings, volunteer work for the healthy elderly, or regular visits from concerned people.
Treatment of underlying medical conditions or the discontinuation of certain medications may alleviate symptoms.

The treatment can be of psychotherapy, medication, or may be the combination of the two.The symptoms can be releived by medicines.Psychotherapy helps to learn more effective ways to deal with problems or to identify and resolve the conflicts contributing to the depression. Severe cases of depression may require hospitalization.Depression with psychotic features usually requires hospitalization and use of antipsychotic drugs such as olanzapine.
