I have major depression and the doc put me on some meds, what is Trazadone for?

i am taking wellbutrin,vistaril,and trazadone. i know wellbutrin is an antidepressant and i think the vistaril is for anxiety but what is trazadone for?

Trazodone is a mild antidepressant with sedative quality. It is used more as an agent for sleep at night than as an antidepressant because of the higher dose required for depression which can cause more side effects.

Trazodone (trade names Desyrel, Molipaxin, Trittico, Thombran, Trialodine Trazorel) is a psychoactive compound with sedative, anxiolytic, and antidepressant properties. The various manufacturers claim that the antidepressant activity becomes active in the first week of therapy. Trazodone has less prominent anticholinergic (dry mouth, constipation, tachycardia) and adrenolytic (hypotension, male sexual problems) side effects than most tricyclic antidepressants.

I'm prescribed trazadone at night to help me sleep, and to keep the weird dreams away. It feels like you've taken Benedryl, and you wake up groggy but only for a couple minutes. I have atypical severe clinical depression. Trazadone is an anti depressant, but a very mild one but the side effect of sleepiness makes it a good med to give to depressed people with insomnia.

It is used for the treatment of depression.

I took a trazadone pill one time and it knocked me out til noon the next day!! Powerful stuff.
