Is it true that St. Johns Wort really helps for depression or does any body know of a good way to help mild?

depression without having to take prescription meds.

I was told by a doctor that in some cases it has helped and others it did not.

I believe everyone gets to feeling like the whole world isn't going right or that feeling one gets that they feel like pulling their hair out for no reason.

To treat this, I believe that a person needs to dig deep inside their selves and find out what the problem or why they are feeling this way. Relaxing is a good method but there are people that do not have time to do it because of their life (work, kids,etc...).

If a person finds it in their selves the root of the problem they then can start working positively on correct or working on what or how they are feeling.

What I mean by digging deep is one may blame a symptom of depression on (bills, spouses, etc...) while the whole time it could be a devastating event that happened in childhood. Although the events "now" are depressing, if one learns the main problem, they can work the other problems out too.

Learning to "know" yourself is more than what people think it is. If you or anyone else learns what exactly makes you and others tick, you will see what I am trying to say.

I wish you well and just remember that you know your mildly depressed, now it is up to "you" to find the cure within yourself. (Pills just cover up the symptoms).

Think about that, people have been depressed (and not taking any meds) and in time they come out of it right?... When you take meds, it is not allowing you to fully solve the problem (just covering it up) proning one to become depressed again later in life.

I've been going to my psychiatrist for a long time so we sometimes talk about other things besides me. She said that she has mild depression and takes St. John's Wort. What I've learned from her is that some drugs work for some people and not others. Some drugs cause side effects in some people and not others. I wouldn't take it if you are taking other prescription medication without consulting a doctor. Otherwise, try it and if it doesn't work after four or five weeks I would see a doctor. My doctor has also stressed the importance of exercise to help combat depression. Good luck. Life is too short too miss out on happiness. :)

Yes, St. Johns Wort is used to treat depression. I've never taken it personally but know a few people who have. They all said it worked well for them.
