Is it common to go through periods of depression for no reason?

It happens to me every now and again. I was wondering if it's common for teenagers to go through periods of angst. But, it's not stuff that would make you do anything extreme. (BTW I haven't had anyone die, etc. all the time I'm happy as a clam except for scarce moments)

I have NO stress what so ever. Schools out so no random papers to write and no stress

Lots of people get episodes of depression quite regularly. There are always reasons for it even if one is not aware of them.

There are many reasons why someone can be depressed and it doesn't always have to relate to having someone die on you. It's quite common for people who experience elation and excitement quite frequently to also experience bouts of depression.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it's affecting your life to such a degree that you are beginning to have major problems in coping with things on a daily basis.

If it doesn't last longer than a week and doesn't happen every month I would say it is normal to go through that as a teenager. It is a stressful time. It is stressful just to be that age even if you don't have schoolwork or anything to worry about. If it last longer or keeps happening frequently than you should talk to a school counselor, your parents, or a doctor about it just to keep it from becoming a serious problem.

If you often bury stress and anger and think its gone or you are controlling it by locking it away in the back of your mind -you are mistaken!
Usually when something upsetting happens people ask if you are ok. If you ever just quickly answer I'm fine ,because you don't want to talk about it ---That is stuffing.
Old Stuff will surface when something else gets you upset like a trigger to all the emotions you buried.
This can overwhelm you (depress) because you are now dealing with many emotions at once. It is hard to get yourself back on track when this happens.
It happens to adults too and is normal.
Reach out for help or a shoulder to cry on when it is offered.
People are usually reading your face when they ask to help.

As long as it happens now and then..that is perfectly normal especially at your age (I am assuming that you are quite young). I mean we all cannot be happy all the time. However if you notice that your periods of anxiety (you say depression) are getting longer every time....or you start wishing that youdo not want to live anymore...or that you are a loser..by way of (you cannot get a boy interested in you..(.the most common teen anxiety..or something similiar)...which commences to INTRUDE in your lifestyle..then my friend..you had better seek professional assistance quick smart.

yes it is.....depression and anxiety both are very normal....

** Its how you recover from it that can be the issues**
If you bounce back from normal depression and can continue to live a normal life then its ok. Its when you want to grab a knife and cut yourself or your think about suicide a lot or just cant get out of bed. Plus if your in a constant state of depression, mania, love, hate..ect ect then it could be a sign of bipolar.
Your body is in a hormonal twirl....getting ready to be an adult for the rest of your life takes some hormones to do it..

Drink chamomile tea before, during and after menstruation to prevent pain, strain, cramps, bloating, gas and discomfort.

Eat extra firm tofu and drink soy milk to prevent pain, strain, cramps, bloating, gas and discomfort.

Eat freah fruit, fresh leafy vegetables, lean red meat, lean white meat, omega 3 fatty oil wild atlantic salmon, herring, cod, haddock, egg whites, almonds, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds with the shells, whole grains, whole wheat, oats and wild rice.

Drink grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, fine filtered calcuim fortified milk and plenty of filtered water to keep fresh, clean, hydrated and healthy.

Stretch muscles before and after exercising to prevent pain, strain, sprains and torn tendons.
Drink two glasses of milk after exercising because drinking milk after working out builds lean, firm, solid, healthy, well toned muscles fast.

sometimes it's common for teenagers, but you should see a doctor. sometimes it's a hormonal problem, and you don't even know it.

Yes it is normal for everyone to be a little down now and then but if it lasts more than a few days and doesn,t subside, I advise you talk to someone.

are these depression bouts at least 2 weeks before your period?

I always get depressed/irritable before my period.Unfortunately, my symptoms come 2 weeks before my period.

But women do have more hormonal issues than girls.

High anxiety I've had randomly, but never depression

Sure......Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain. It can be treated if you feel that ou need it to be.

welcome to my world!
