Have you ever known anyone with severe depression?

If so how did they act? Were they ever happy? Did they do stuff they wouldnt normally do, such as not go to work just because they didnt want to? Tell me as much as you can please.

Actually, yes. My best friend is has been on and off depressed for about 6 months now. She's scared she might hurt herself, not just with a knife, or a gun, or some kind of weaponry. She knows how to hurt herself anyway possible. She didn't just sit around doing nothing though. She'd hang with me, and we'd see movies and go shopping to get her depression off her mind. Of course it didn't totally, but it did somewhat. She uses her friends to help her depression, and she talks to people on the phone so she doesn't get up to hurt herself. She does other things to get her mind off the bad stuff. I help her think positive.

When my depression was severe, I did not want to get out of bed. I would put my medications and water next to my bed so when I woke up in the morning I could stay in bed. I didn't want to take care of myself, eating or showering.
A few days I kept my curtains and shade down because I didn't want to look outside. I turned the ringer off on my phone so I didn't know when someone was calling.
Whenever my depression was severe I went into the hospital and had my medications changed. I am a little happier now. I am pretty stable with therapy and medications. Lets hope it stays this way.

Well I have been suffering from anorexia. I am very depressed most of the day. From what my family tells me, I stare into space allot, I cry randomly, I don't talk much, I often don't laugh at funny things, I seem almost careless however I do try and help others. Some people act to depression differently. I sometimes don't want to wake up in the mourning, which means I am suicidal. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean I will kill myself, but it means life is too hard for me. Uhmm..I wish I could help more and tell you some of the actions. Sometimes people can hide depression so it is a very difficult topic.

I have been severly depressed, and was in the psych ward with other depressed people. We dont really have energy, are tired alot. dont really want to do anything. neglect our responsibilities, cry alot. Sleep at wierd times and sleep alot. Look sad, and doesnt really seem happy. some people may think we are being rude because we usually isolate, and dont really want to be around a bunch of people or in social situations.

i knda was. i'm workn thru it tho n gettn a lot better. but it's horrible. i'm sure it's different 4 every1. with me i jus feel really low n i start 2 think real bad bout myself n feel lyk i might as well b dead, but i have more sense than 2 try 2 kill myself. i feel better around friends, but there's still tha sadness n a lot of times even around my friends i'd b real distant which is completely from my usual personality. n it felt lyk no one cared n no one should care about me. n when i was alone i'd jus lay on tha couch all day n cry.

It really is different from person to person. I have had friends who will act normal on the outside but when they are by themself they are a mess and they hid things really well. I also had friends that would show it openly and seek attention so it really depends from person to person

I guess I was. I used to stay in the house all day with music cranked up to the limit drinking a bottle of whiskey a day. I would stay up all night, go to work and then go home and drink until I fell asleep. Now, I go jogging in the morning and working out after work. I changed my life and have given up alcohol....

yes, my mom has to take pills for it, they usually deny things that are good, alienate themselves from others and are usually very self consious about what other people say/think and always thinks its negative

Yeah... My Mom.
She was sitting there with me and my sister when we were about nine telling us to swallow these pills, because we'd all be better off dead.
Very severe depression =(
