Has anyone ever talked to a psychiatrist about depression?

I am going to meet with a psychiatrist this week and I wanted to know what are some of the typical questions asked on a first visit. I want to be able to really think about the answers beforehand so that I don't leave anything out.

haha, i was forced to go to see a psychiatrist because of dss and they asked me things like so why do you think your here or tell me about yourself. my psychiatrist finally quit and said she couldn't work with me because i said absolutely nothing to her. Everything you say to your psychiatrist will probably be written down and will talk to you about any little thing you say. but you don't need to think about the answers beforehand you can talk to them like there normal people and treat it as a casual conversation but for some reason this person wants to know anything about you. and if you say that something sucks they will probably say why?did you ever give it a chance?

Psychiatrists will ask you a bunch of questions, and if you don't give clear answers they may think something is wrong that isn't.
To get the most out of your visit come prepared with a list of your most pressing concerns and ask help for specific issues. If they can't give you a satisfactory answer on that, then you will probably find them as useless as I did.

Why do you think you are depressed? Maybe this is just normal for you. Who says you need to be excited about anything. Maybe you haven't yet found the things in life that excite you yet - they are different for everyone. I personaly find life extremely boring - doesn't mean I'm depressed, just haven't found anything to be overly enthusiastic about yet.

The psychiatrist will want to find out some basics about you. More than likely, each session will bring out different elements to discuss. The psychiatrist will ask questions and pick up on things to lead discussion. Best of luck with the psychiatrist.
