Depression what would you do?

This thing has followed me throughout my life, at the moment its pretty bad, my docs sending me to see a "Behavioural Therapist" dont know if this will help, has anyone been to one of these? or would you ask for some tabs to take it away? i have to be careful what i take as im on different medication for other things

The therapist might be able to help you reorganize your life.
I take my antidepressant to keep the suicidal thoughts away, but my counselor has helped the most.

depression can be really funny,it comes to you when your least expecting it,and thats why its so hard to deal with,it can be many reasons,a whole range of different feelings thoughts, and all it can take is one to set it off,i dont know if thats what you call the people you see,i thought it was just a councilor, whatever, because of the difficulty in explaining your feelings, when your feeling like that,it was suggested to me,that i write my feelings and thoughts down, even if you sat and doodled, its a way of getting out the feelings, even if they are painfull, atleast they are out instead of in,where they will only fester and multiply if not dealt with, however you deal with your problems,i hope you find the help you deserve, and the strength to combat it.peAce.

Go see the therapist.

I tried to avoid it for years, relying on medication instead.

I felt relieved and focused after talking to a professional.
They understand the causes and the answers, its their job. Theres nothing to be scared of. Do yourself a favour make an appointment.

Best wishes.

Talking things throgh will help
Meditation really turned me around(mindfulness)
Afive a day plus diet, in season
regular excercise
Self awareness, acceptance ,

I agree with the previous posters, see the therapist. It is very unlikely that any harm could come from such a meeting.

go and see the therapist

Well i'd see anybody i could to help me through it.

Your doctor (or preferably a good psychiatrist) is the best person to decide (in conjunction with you) how best to deal with your depression.
Assuming you have a good doctor, (and don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion), they are qualified to work out what will help you best. They also know or can find out about drug interactions that might case problems for you. Bu make sure you give them all detailsof wha you are or have been taking, because medications for depression can interact with each other and even with things you wouldn't expect (like herbal medicines such as St John's Wort).
Whether or not "cognitive behavioural therapy" (which is where they try to change your thinking patterns by getting you to do exercises such as writing down your thoughts and understanding how cycles of thoughts can cause or worsen depression) will help or not depends on you, how commited you are to it, how good the therapist is and what the causes of your depression are. For example, if your depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain then CBT won't help until that problem is addressed.
Note that everyone responds differently to the medications, and to different drugs available- one might not help you but another will.
There are plenty of doctors, therapists and psychiatrists out there who don't have a clue so "shop" around!!
Personally, it took me over a year, a number of doctors, about 4 or 5 counsellors/therapists and 4 different psychiatrists as well as trying various different medications and some CBT to feel better.
I have depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety, and although I relapsed some time after working out the best meds for me, (after stopping taking the tablets), at least now I know what to do.

So just go see your Doc and tell them exactly how you are feeling, without holding anything back, including your reservations about the meds.
There is help out there, keep trying, stay positive and good luck.
I understand how you feel.
