Post-natal depression and fluoxetine? |
I have been diagnosed with post natal depression and have started taking 20 mg of fluoxetine. I feel bloody awful from them! its only my first week.... But i am soooo sleepy on them, my hands shake, i cant get off the loo! has anybody out there taken them for post natal too? if so how did you get on with them?? I'm sorry to hear you're having such bad side effects with fluoxetine! I've been on it for nearly a month for depression, 20mg like you. My dr did warn me that if I experience side effects they will be worse in the first week so to try to stick with it, and thats what I would say to you. Didn't take them for post-natal depression, but have taken them for depression. I got on really well with them. They do take between two to four weeks to work, so maybe the effects that your describing could still be the depression (except the toilet prob). Tiredness can be a side affect of them, but again is also common with depression. Give them a bit longer because the first few months of a baby's life is soo important and special and i would hate for you to miss out on bonding time due to feeling low. Check the leaflet that came with the meds as there is a list of side effects, and do contact your gp or pharmacist if you notice any of them. Also if you notice your mood going down call for immediate medical help. Btw the only side affects i had were a very slight decrease in libido (nowhere near as much as post-natal depression would cause) and slight weight gain after a few months, probably due to eating more due to feeling happier lol. Good luck, watch out for any side affects, and enjoy your baby x I take fluoxetine for my PND and OCD. Depression is not understood by psychiatry enough for you to be drugging your entire body with prozac. |
