Is depression taken seriously these days?

I'm really struggling with my wife separating away from me, and I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow so maybe I can start to sleep and eat regularly again. It's been 10 days, and I'm still massively impacted by this. I have no will to do anything, just wait and see what she is going to do.

Clinical depression is a very serious, chronic and degenerative condition if not treated and it is very serious, luckily, doctors and medical professionals do take mental illnesses these days seriously and medications and psychotherapy have come long long ways from the rubber rooms, drilling skulls and the other primitive ways of of dealing with mental illness..anyway tell your doctor everything and how you are feeling and your moods, etc...most likely he will prescribe you with an anti-depressive medication and hopefully refer you to ppsychotherapy if not the latter ask him for a rreferralor if he knew a good therapist...I believe that medication helps some people but to get to the root of your iissuesand to truly help you need to do the work of therapy and it can be hard, long and emotionally draining but it is the way to help you emotional and mental problems...

Also to answer your question, there still is a stigma associated with the mentall ill in todays scoiety, mostly by the ignorant and fearful...I have learned this fact all to weel in my life...

Best of luck

Your reaction to the situation is completely to be expected. Your depression is what is called situational and is complicated by grief and shock.

It's ony been ten days...it may be ten months or even more than a year before you are able to put this past you and move on. However, if you continue to be unable to function at all, please go and talk to a counselor...you need someone to talk to in person about what is going on in your life.

I am so sorry for the pain you are going through, I know how awful it is.

you are so normal and if your doctor doesn't take you seriouly find a different one!!! good on you for trying to take care of your self!!!
