Do i have depression? Or the start of it?..?


I'm worried i may have depression or the start of it anyway...

Recently i just feel so down all the time, everyday i feel like i could cry. I don't always know why either. Fair enough it may sound like hormones but I'm actually genuinely getting really worried about myself. Any little thing starts it off. Also i feel so lonely :\ I mean i have friends but it just feels like there are things missing, i would love to go out like at night more socially but the thing is i don't actually have a group of friends i feel i could go out with together, because they don't and wouldn't all associate with each other. Also i'm totally unhappy with college, the actual course and the people, I just wish I could find somewhere to be happy. I love what I do which is art/textiles but I can't stand college, therefore I should be moving to do a levels later in the year but the thing is I'm now sticking it out for this term, purely for the fact I have nothing else to do and I just feel completely unhappy. And now I have half a year to fill and I don't know what I'm going to do :S. I wish I could meet new people and go out more often, but there isn't many places to go where I live except shopping or the cinema and this is getting really laborious, because this seems to be the only thing i ever actually do. Any ideas on how I could meet new people? Or learn to feel happier...

It also doesn't help the fact I am very unconfident in myself, people always tell me I can do things but I always feel so useless. I just feel like I'm stuck at home far too much with no where to go and I feel bored and depressed. Seems to me there is no one out there that feels like this atm, I keep looking around on say, social networking sights and everyones going out and having a good time :\. I keep snapping at people I should be close to like my mum but half the time I don't even realise Im doing it. This has been going on for a few weeks and it's driving me crazy. Does it sound like I may be getting depressed? What can I do? Thanks.

Yes. I would strongly advise you to see a doctor about i as depression may have a variety of causes.

symptoms of depression:
lack of interest in activities normally enjoyable
crying
insomnia or sleeping too much
feelings of worthlessness
lack of libido
increase or decrease in appetite
suicidal thoughts or thinking alot about death and dying
feelings of hopelessness
If you have suffered from any of these symptoms for 2 weeks or more
you should seek medical attention.

There is short-term depression and chronic depression. I think you have the former. The temporary blues.

Your lack of self-esteem and confidence has left you feeling a bit lonely and needy. The loneliness and the need for intimacy has left you depressed. We all go through periods in our lives where we don't feel very fulfilled like there's no purpose.

Nothing will change until you change. Making more friends wont change the fact that you don't care for college and lack direction. You have to plan your life, find something you feel really passionate about [textiles doesn't seem to be enough], and give yourself a reason to be proud and feel accomplished. You need things to look forward to.

Does that make sense? That self-esteem comes from within and it comes from things we accomplish? When happy and satisfied with ourselves we easily attract other people.
