How do you cover up depression (appearance)?

How do you cover up depression (appearance)?

??

Smile, try and act confident.
Also sometimes just because your smiling, it can make you feel better. X

While I understand trying to cover up your feelings maybe to get through a situation, I would not recommend doing it as a general rule.
As I answered in your other post about people on the street staring at you because you think that they see you as depressed.
Have you done anything to get help dealing with your depression?
You deserve to have relief from this and seeing a counselor, teacher, parent, friend or psychioatrist may be a good thing to think about.
How old are you?

You can hide them by appearing energetic; being productive at work and in your personal life and speaking quickly and clearly.

NB. Please know that:
1. many many people suffer from depression at some time in their lives
2. there is nothing to be ashamed of - chemicals in ones brain change as a result of our thoughts and we therefore need help
3. it is fine to put on a front AS LONG AS YOU ARE GETTING HELP
4. It is almost impossible to put up a front all the time
5.depression is a result of inefficeint recognition and handling of feelings and CAN BE CHANGED
6. people are human and sometimes need help
7. the signs are slow body movement, distraction and slow verbal response but the majority of people have NO idea and it is therefore extremely unlikely that they would recognise it.
8. the fact the you are concerned is probably part of the depression and will change if you get help

So help by:
1. take one step at at a time - I know you don't have any energy
2. read "the depression path"
3. start trying to be aware of and name your emotions
4. express yourself - if you are angry say you are angry
5. approach your dr - he may prescribe medication. Ask for "talk therapy" or approach wpf if you are in the UK
6. get support from a friend or family member
7. drink at least 1 litre of water a day
4. eat fruit and vegetables and oily fish
5. NB take some excercise even if you think it is the last thing you want to do
6. visit "miller mood mapping"
7.do not beat yourself up - be kind to yourself
8. do 1 small nice thing for yourself every day

You can and will get help but only if you reach out

Take care

you should not be trying to cover up depression

you should seek medical help--get someone to help with your depression, not saying this in a bad way, depression is very serious. please see a doctor--don't try to hide it-you are only hurting yourself and other people around you that care about you--talk to someone and let them know how you are feeling

just try to dress nicely, care about how you look, try to wear colorful clothes, and just try to be happy, but around friends and family, if you are feeling down, let them know, for your sake, especially since a while of wearing a mask makes it hard to take off, not to mention, if you really need someone to talk to when you're feeling down, how would they know so they could help you

Honestly, you really can't. Someone will always be able to see through a mask. It's just how it is. You can try to look happy though, that's your best bet, but I wouldn't cover something like depression up, because it can lead to suicidal thoughts and actions.

you just have to be brave in facing people,., know what each one of us vary in appearance,., its one of us is unique,., but there are just those who are pretending to be "pretty" yet doesnt really understand what it means,., you dont have to be depressed because of your appearnce,. dont mind what others say,., if you know that your happy then go for it., its your life after all,.,

i know how hard it can be to cover it up feeling like its not you but i do it all the time act like nothing bothers you think of good times keep your mind busy and then smile and stand tall it should help hopefully
hope this helps xxx

I think the usual way to do it is to avoid people as much as possible until you feel/look/behave better.

You realise that you *have* to for the sake of others, and just put on your mask...

SMILE :)

put on a brave face, smile
