Can exercises actually help depression?

I heard that it brings your seretonin levels up or something. Please explain!

Of course it helps. On top of the hormones it releases, in general you just feel better about yourself because rather than being depressed and lazy, you are doing something active with your time which gives you the feeling of "accomplishment". And with working out comes physical results and because you look better, you typically feel better.

yes exercise releases endorphins into the body which gives a sort of a natural 'high'. Thus increasing your serotonin levels which are known as the 'happy hormone'.
Another good idea is exercising in the daylight so that you get Vitamin D from the sunlight which helps the absorption of calcium in your body.
And not only that but the fresh air and bright evenings will also improve your mood!

There's probably a range of reasons why exercise helps people with depression.

Exercise leads to an increased release of endorphins in the body. These chemicals may help combat depression and make us feel happier.
Exercise helps us to get active and meet new people. This stops us from feeling isolated and unsupported.
Exercise can give us new goals and a sense of purpose - we have something positive to focus on and aim for.
Exercise can boost our self-esteem - it can improve the way we look and how we feel about ourselves.

From my experience... No.

It did not change my mood, thoughts or give any relief from depression.
After a round of any sort of exercise i was left even more drained and feeling weaker than before i started.

Others it might work for but i personally think its a load of hog wash.

i had a tough year last year & didnt want anti depressants, so i went to the gym & went hiking & surfing & it changed the way i feel :) really makes a difference

It's called a runner's high

yes it can help and in some areas doctors are able to recommend patients with depression for free membership of gyms instead of medication but it depends on the local trust's budget.

You dont know the meaning of depression
I dont have to know you. Theres worser people off than you in the world.

yes it does bring your seretonin levels up with is what makes you feel happy so yes it has been said to work

A little.
