I'm tired of hearing, "you have to try harder to beat depression"? |
The only people who say this are the people whom never had bad depression. How do you try harder? You can excercise, be more active..but that doesn't change your mindset if you are really depressed. In most cases people have to ride out thier depression and give the depression credit for what it is. It isn't an illness it's a spiritual passage. This is how I feel. People will get better and give thanks to meds and doctors..mesnwhile what really happened is thier soul was done being depressed. I think that mental health care for depression is like the loch ness monster..it never did and never will exist. I wouldn't go see a "Brain Ranger," thats for sure. They really know how the thought process works. Me for example. When my platoon leader died in Iraq, they had a psychologist come in and talk to our platoon. He knew nothing about what we are going through, except when he was in cuba and they took his patients away. My point is, nobody can tell you how to make yourself better, except you. Those who have been there before only can tell you how they got out of it. Those who have never been there, can only speculate and act like they know who to get you out of it. i have had depersion of and on for a lifetime and i,m over sixty now. most of the advise i have heard is, it,s self pity. nothing can be further fromthe truth or a more unkind answer. i can relate to you but offer you no worthwhile advise i,m sorry to say, good luck with solving this problem let me tell you i think its rude for ppl to tell you to snap out of it and its gonna be ok blah blah blah when they dont go thru depression or any other mental disorder i have bi-polar 2/psycosis,anxiety/stress ADHD and its not easy living with me you just have to ignore these ppl and stay away from them and tell them if you cant be supportive of me ill find someone who will so i know exactally how you feel and how hard to have to struggle every day with things while its a walk in the park for all others good luck in finding some support system for you well, some people are insensitive. some people are ignorant. some people are know it alls and you have to admit, major depression is not like having a blue day or feeling sad because your grandma died. and people who have never had major depression happen to them could never understand what it is really like. just as men will never understand what it feels like to be pregnant. they could imagine but they will never know. Really, this is not the correct place to ask this question. Please go to a doctor, and perhaps a Ph.D. minister or therapist. Help really is easy. good luck What are your hobbies? What interests you? Dancing? Baseball? Museums? Bowling? Painting? Get involved don't sit back & just wait for the pills to kick in. Use discipline & know that happiness doesn't come in pill form. I believe there are certain medications that can help you but you too have to help yourself as well! Everyone has a certain amount of depression in their lives. Whether it be from work related issues, divorce, children, school problems, money,...... It's up to you to find what makes you happy. What puts a smile on your face. Get up & do something about it. You're alive and apparantly have several ways of communicating. Be thankful for that & use your God given talents to get out there and meet people. Most people you'll find are just like you. Good Luck!! YOU can do it!!!!! |
