What's on offer as an alternative/add to pesription drugs re depression? |
hi can anyone tell me wat there is on offer for depression on the green side i mean alternative medicine am at the moment taking anti depresents but also want to find an alternative route that i can try or add to the pills i am allready taking? thanks in hope of serious answers please what ben b said about taking active things to break the cycle is good, and a nice hot tub is good too, as an aid to relaxation, a walk in the country if possible, and chamomile tea, its an acquired taste but worth it, but as ben and i both seem to think, breaking the cycle of the depression is the most important thing, dont dwell on it, dont give yourself time to think about it, this can only lead to a deeper sense of gloom, find an outside activity you like, maybe even volunteer to help with a good cause, anything to make you more active in your approach to daily life, and remember, you wake up in the morning breathing..............if you can do that, take a look at the day as a bonus and smile St johns wort. My ex used to swear by it. She used to buy it from Holland and Barret I think. Its a totally natural remedy, but takes some time for effect that's easy. contact the life extension foundation lef.org. they have plenty of ideas and info. Take a bath, every morning, and evening, and maybee during the day. The phsycological effect of cleansing, and feeling cleansed and refreshed is helpful, so too, the effects of a bath, with herbal bath (self indulgent) and its a physical act, requiring effort, and routine. all healthy things to beat depression. a bath also has a wakening effect to shake depresion. St Johns Wort can be very effective in some people. BUT...it doesn't interact well with a lot of prescription medicines, so always best to check with your doc or pharmacist before taking them. Good luck. I agree with John P. St. John's Wort is a natural remedy which, according to many, seems to work. But it shouldn't be taken alongside prescribed antidepressant medication, should you choose this option. If your current meds/dosage isn't working, best to see your GP, as sometimes it's a bit trial-and-error, to see what works for the individual, and your doc can adjust accordingly. If you on any medication and want to come of it please go see your doc as a lot af anti deprssant meds can cause side effects esp when stop taking, also they interact with a lot of non prescription and alternative medications so before you try anything please go to your doc and discuss with him or even your CPN if you have been assigned one |
