Are there any adults out there who have been perscribed Ridilin for depression, and if so, how does it work?

Ritalin is an amphetamine designed for ADD/ADHD. It increases blood flow to the front of the brain and stimulates the production of nor-epinephrine, a mood enhancer. As the newer generation of SSRIs for depression slow the reabsorbing of serotonin, there is a similarity between some SSRI anti-depressants and Ritalin. Ritalin will help depression IF it is a result or part of ADD/ADHD. I use Adderal, a newer medication somewhat similar to Ritalin. And I have depression that is connected to ADD/ADHD; Adderal does stop both the depression and the ADD/ADHD symptoms.
But unless your doctor suspects that you have ADD/ADHD it is very unusual for him/her to prescribe Ritalin. I would suggest that you ask your physician why he/she is prescribing Ritalin.
I use it for ADD and depression..it helps and i have been on it for 3 yrs now
Wow, I've never heard of it used for anything but ADD/ADHD before. My gf takes it for ADD. I went through some seriously major depression and took all kinds of SSRIs and so forth, but never Ritulin. I did find something far better for the depression. It's an actual cure rather than some lame medication that just makes you feel a little better with all of their side effects.
