What is the best and worst food to eat when you have anxiety/depression? |
Serious answers only please. Mmmmm. From my experience. I would say that it is important to eat fruit and veg and substantial food in general. Eating good food will not make you feel all that better though if there are issues that are bothering you that haven't been addressed. It's a bit of both. Also, eating bad food is probably not as bad for you as drinking too much or doing drugs. Sugary foods may make you feel a bit run down physically, but you have to understand what it is inside that is causing the majority of the problem. Once I quit drinking and started eating really healthily for about a month in a bid to ease stress/anxiety etc but it did little for me. The reason being was because I ignored an emotional issue and thought that physical factors would solve it. Having a couple of pints was acrually healthier for me because it made me express myself easier so it's swings and roundabouts. You have to understand what is REALLY causing the problem in your mind/body. If you already understand it, you have to ADMIT it. Good Luck! Best - a healthy, varied diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Traditional meals - meat, potatoes and veg. Worst - high fat, high sugar foods. Its best to maintain a steady blood sugar level, so snacking on chocolate is a bad idea. anything with caffeine in it can be bad because it jump starts your nervous system and can make you feel more anxious - even if you don't have an anxiety disorder to start with I always found ice-cream good for settling my tummy when i was feeling anxiety worst-sugar, carbs, caffiene best-fruits, vegies, water, green tea I like cheesecake when Im depressed! Fresh foods are always helpful :) |
