What do you think of 5htp as an alternative to prozac for anxiety/depression? Is it safe for kids? I personally use 5-HTP as a means to keep from having to use prescription anti-depressants. 5-HTP helps the body to produce it's own serotonin, thus helping you to improve your moods, and assists in helping you to sleep a little better. It's not a cure-all, but it does help a bit. I've not personally had any adverse side affects, but that does not mean others have not experienced any. I'm not sure at what age it is recommended to start a young person out on 5-HTP. There are also some factors that should be considered when administering 5-HTP to anyone, especially children. The bottles have specific warnings, and it would be a good idea to read them and see which apply to you. Consulting a doctor or a pharmacist would also be a good idea. You cannot take chances with suppliments. Some of them also conflict with prescription medications if you happen to be taking any. Check 5-HTP thoroughly, and if all appears safe, and you get the thumbs up, it's a really good suppliment, and I like it alot. Best wishes!~ In its raw form, like turkey... it makes people more tired and seems tobreak down too much before it ends up between the synapses as serotonin. People (inc. myself) thought of this idea 20+ years ago. Contact the doctor |
