I was in a psych ward when i was 15 and i was diagnosed with depression, bipolar, and anxiety disorder.? |
and i was put on medication, but awhile after i got home my parents said that they know me better than the doctors and that i do not have any of those and they took away my medication. it has been over 2 years now and still feel anxious and depressed alot and i don't know who i should believe. the doctors or my parents. i don't go to a counselor anymore or a psychologist. should i just go with what my parents say? Unless your parents went to medical school, believe your DOCTORS. Your life depends on this. Those disorders are nothing to fool around with and are very treatable. But left alone they can kill you or rob you of the life you deserve. If you are in school, I would suggest talking to the school nurse or guidance counselor, and letting them know how you're feeling and what's going on. Also, if you are 18, you do not have to have your parents' permission to seek help - you can go to your local health department or emergency room (if you are feeling suicidal) and ask for help. There are also lots of online support groups and free phone numbers that you can call for assistance. There is help out there, and if you are still feeling anxious and depressed, you need to take the initiative and seek it out. Good luck and God bless. :) If you are still feeling anxious or depressed then it could be that you do need the medications. Doctors don't usually just give you those types of pills unless you really need them. Your parents just might be in denial about your condition or maybe they don't like pills. Either way, you should talk to your doctors and your parents and get back on the medication so you can start to feel better. Your parents are probably thinking they are just protecting you. But bipolar is serious and its something that you cant help. Along with depression and the disorder. Its ok to need medicine and to get counseling from time to time. YOu need to make yourself happy. ANd better. If you feel sad, it doesnt have to be that way. You need to talk to someone you trust or school. It sounds like your parents are in denial probably because they are afraid to admit to themselves and to other people that you have these things. Doctors are not evil and they don't diadnose you with something unless they truely believe that you have it. I think taking your meds will make you feel better, and I know you want to feel better. If you're still under 18 I would urge your parents to heed the doctors advice so you can live a normal life. However, if you're over 18 you can legally stand up for yourself and I would definately do that. Tell your parents that you still feel depressed and anxious, and want to see a psychologist. They may not want you to take medications, but they shouldn't be against you seeking help. If they don't trust the doctor, they should take you for a second opionion rather than just disregard the 1st doctors opinion. If you happen to live in the San Francisco bay area, I know some really good doctors that treat teen girls specifically. Either way, I wish you the best of luck. Stay strong. |
