How is talking about my feelings for 40 mins every week supposed to help my depression?

Has anyone here ever been helped by talk therapy? If so why? I actually don't like going because it becomes boring and annoying.
I've been to many therapists but it's all the same to me. I take meds too that don't work at all. I don't know how to get better on my own. I've had severe depressive episodes for 15 years and they only get worse..I am 26

If after 15 years you are still agonizing over your depression then maybe it has been misdiagnosed, mismedicated and obviously therapy isn't the answer. At least not talk therapy. I would change doctors (if you haven't already). It's your health on the line so feel free to lay it on the line with your current or next doctor so that way they know the whole scoop about what is going on with you.
You are finding it boring and annoying because deep down you really don't want to discover why you are depressed. Probably because it scares you. You need to be willing to let the therapist help you or you will feel the way you do now for the rest of your life. Do you really want that?
You may need a different approach. Talk one last time to your therapist about alternatives to the method presently being used. And have a complete physical exam to rule out organic causes.

Tell your therapist. ;)

Maybe it's to get anything "off your chest," or help release pent up emotions. Plus, by talking about your childhood or events, they can get to the root of your depression. But then how would it help? I'm not sure how to answer your question. I'd suggest just find someone you can confide in if you need to, and find something to pursue--a hobby, sport, something. Do what makes you feel good (unless it's self-destructive. if it is, call for help). Perhaps you should go to another doctor. Who knows? Maybe the medication isn't very effective. Good luck.

It's only one part of it. I usually hate therapy, but I once found a really good therapist. She taught me a lot about redirecting my thought patterns. The others were quacks.

I take meds, and I suppose they work. But I also stopped drinking alcohol, I take care of my physical health, I work hard, I cut off people who were negative influences, etc. - basically, everything I do is geared toward my recovery every waking hour.

I work out with weights three days a week, and on mt days off from the gym I POWERLIFT. It seems to be working.
