Does anyone know if there is a website to determine the difference between bipolar and depression?

Over the last year I have had some real difficulties dealing with life. I am able to function at work and at home, but feel it is an incredible struggle at times. I have to be vigilant at appointments or I miss them. I have difficulty with details, I cant seem to keep my house clean...not that is a dirt bomb or anything just cluttered. And I just feel generally worthless. Tried going to counseling and a mild antidepressant, but they didn't really help. Also a lot of stress this last year, step daughter moved home, she lost her baby recently, which broke all our hearts. My daughter is a little mouthy, but otherwise normal. I have an increased interest in sex which is a little frightening to me. I feel like I am going through a mid life crisis or something, but i really feel I am too young for that...I am 33. I cant sleep well. and I guess that is about it...anyone can help?

OMG - We can totally relate on so many levels. Bipolar is 2-polar so there is depression and mania, but I don't think this what is haunting you. It's time for us to talk - let me help <messenger or e-mail>. This next thing will sound crazy but look at signs/symptoms of ADD. Oh, oh, lets talk - I can totally help you. I don't know about a website, but I do know that the difference is that in bipolar you have manic episodes where you tend to sleep very little and make grandiose plans.

I would go back to counseling- or go see a true psychologist who can better diagnose you and put you on a better medication. Some depression medications work for some people and not for others. In finding the right one a patient usually has to try several in varying doses. Good luck.

see your doctor if you trust him or her and can talk about these things. maybe there is a better counceler for you and or better medications. Why do you think you are bipolar? Web MD is a good site and ivillage has alot of good advice on alot of subjects. Good luck to you.
My heart goes out to you, please seek professional help, if the people you saw last time didnt help see someone else. Dont trust websites. A good psychiatrist can only make diagnosis. You have been through bad times i wish you better, hang in there.
Bipolar is a mental illness such as Manic Depressive.
Depression is just that--depressed. (It is unipolar, although you don't hear that often.)

With Bipolar you have manic and depressive episodes. You may be depressed for sometime then a manic episode will occur. Episodes of mania vary from person to person (of those who suffer it).

FYI a woman goes through a sexual peak in her middle thirties. It could be a manic symptom, but not for me to say as I am not a psychologist or psychiatrist--I am only a middle aged Psychology major!

See the link below, but by all means, see someone who can help you. I talked to my gynecologist--who is a woman and knows how it is to deal with woman's emotions, etc. You might start there and/or maybe your doctor or OBGYN can refer you to a therapist.

Also, there are several types of medications out there. You may not be on the right "class" of medicine. Antidepressants of different classes work in different ways. And, if you are bipolar then you will need a different medication than for regular depression.

Some meds take a while to "kick in". Don't put off getting something done. It is worth feeling good. I have been on antidepressants for about 7 years. I feel like I am a human being; don't want to feel like I did before I took meds!
