How can I get my dog certified as a service animal. He helps me battle depression.? |
I need to move and my dog along wiith my medicine is an irreplaceable tool in my recovery. I want to get him certified as a service animal. Please help. Depression isn't a valid reason to have a Service Dog, by law, but it is a valid reason to have an Emotional Support Animal. The US Department Of Justice has determined that Emotional Support Animals may live with people and can not be excluded from apartments or places that people dwell, and that anyone who is using a dog for emotional support may keep that dog. Get a doctor's note. It's sufficient, by law. There is no certification process. The ADA clearly states that owners may train their own dogs. Check with your county to find out what registration requirements are necessary, because some counties offer free tags for animals used to support people, again take them the doctor's note and they will give you the tag. Remember, Emotional Support Animals (ESA) do not have any rights to accompany a person into a place of business, whereas a Service Dog does. Good luck Source(s): Service Dog user, owner talk to your doctor, he may be able to help you I know that you do have a right to have an "emotional support animal" I think you will have to google this one. Oh, here i found stuff at drchn.org on this issue. they have a form. I think he is a good dog. |
