There are very few free-clinics left for you to just walk into. Check with your local social services office to see if you qualify for any State or Federal medical insurance programs - like Medicaid. Such programs allow you to be seen with no co-pay. Or, if you're not qualified for that, contact your local United Way office, in your town or county. They will have a listing of clinics or mental health professionals that are willing to see you on a sliding-fee scale for their services. Source(s): My experience.
Depending on your area, there may be several options. The dept of social services or health and human services will usually have a good list.

There are County run Mental Health Clinics throughout the Country. Look in your local telephone book.
When you find yourself depressed.
Stop yourself.
Then turn this mis-used energy into benefiting you.
Ask yourself:
Am I hungry, if the answer is yes.
Prepare a meal in your head.
Then get up and actually do everything needed to make the meal.
All this activity will rewire your brain because you are thinking about something other than feeling sorry for yourself.
Next.
Say the answer is no, then you move on to the next item on the list.
Am I thirsty. yes or no.
And so on.
When was it the last time you had a shower,
washed your hair, clean your nails, laundry, your room, your car, and on and on.
This will keep you busy and you will feel good for accomplishing all these things beneficial for you.
You will become in the process a new person,
and you will not look back.
Repeat this behavior until it becomes second nature and automatic.
And maybe a few years later you will be wondering what the hey was I depressed about.
It is your choice, whine and feel sorry for yourself or be constructive.
Hang in there and give it hell.
Time will go by one way or another.
If there is a welfare office in your town start there first. Also if there is a soup kitchen in your town ask the people who run it about mental health treatment options. They are linked in with the community resources more than you realize.
Most states have one state funded hospital. There is help for depression out there. Please keep trying.
You can also try a local hospital.
