So I had my son Aug 30th of last year. I got an extreme case of post pardum depression.? |
Anti- depressants made it worse so I stopped taking them. A year later I finally went back, They diagnosed me with a chemical imbalance and panic attacks. I am now on a mood stabalizer and xanax for my attacks. I have been on treatment for 4 months, I feel alot better, but I dont feel my depression has gone away. Also I am still overweight from my pregnancy and I think my pills are making me gain weight. I am not embracing motherhood or family life at all. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can just be content with where I am at. I have always wanted to be married and have children, but now that i have it, its like the last thing I want. Please any suggestions would be helpful Samantha, maybe it's the medications you have chosen to take. There are so so so many different kinds you can take that won't make you feel bad. Try a different doctor for a different opinion at least. Speak to your church pastor, it's free counseling too. With the medication for the chemical imbalance (which should have been a blood test for you) and medication for panic attacks, maybe they are counteracting each other. Your child is growing up right before your eyes and you're missing out on it. Don't sit back years from now and WISH you would have done something...get out there and find another doctor and DO it. You don't have to settle for just being Content Sam....... you have to get off your duff and make it better......yes, you're trying but at least try one more time........ for the childhood memories your baby will have. We're all with you and we KNOW you can do it girl!!!!! Come back and let us know ok? With all due respect, it is my opinion that there is no such thing as "post partum depression," and this is yet another "disease" that psychologists have invented for a failing of the human condition. You, yourself admit that you're not embracing motherhood or family life, and this has more to do with an attitude, or personal dliemma instead of a "disease," again in my humble opinion. Bear in mind that psycholoists have invented "ADHD" for children who are bored to tears by some witch in a classroom and being denied recess and they also consider alcoholism a "disease" instead of a personal failing. Well, anyway, these are my views, as unpopular as I'm sure they'll be. I HAVE PRESENTED THEM, HOWEVER, IN ACCORDANCE WITH MY FIRST AMEMDMENT RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH and abiding within the posting guidelines of Yahoo Answers. in addition to the prescriptions it might also be helpful to see a counselor.....Just so that you can come to terms with your feelings.....most counselors will see you solo and with your family so everyone can help you through this time. Good Luck and God bless. As all of this came about as the result of pregnancy, and insulin is a major player in "making babies" (either trust me on this or read "Enter the Zone" by Barry Sears, get your insulin tested. It is a one step fasting blood insulin test, that has to be done at a lab that routinely does the test (cause insulin acts so fast they have to catch it quick or freeze the sample to measure it properly). If your insulin is high (10 or higher on American scales), then this could be one reason for your depression and overweight condition. High insulin can cause a condition called hypoglycemia and that can have these symptoms among others. Consider checking out www.hufa.org -especially the symptoms link - and see if you have other symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). |
