I read on a Paul McKenna hypnotism DVD that it shouldn't be used by anyone with clinical depression. Why? The problem is that people with clinical depression can use the hypnosis dvd and will feel great afterwards. However, since the therapy didn't necessarily deal with the cause of depression, chances are that the persons mood will "crash" and they will become even more depressed. In some cases this may take someone from clinical depression to where they start having and/or acting on suicidal thoughts. Not a good thing at all. In short there is a high probability that the person will end up being more depressed.. Clinical depression should firstly be treated with allopathic medicine, and if you want a complementary approach, seek out a well trained hypnotherapist. Dr Michael Yapko specialises in the use of hypnosis with depression. He is probably the world authority on it: http://www.yapko.com/ Also, as a side note, hypnosis should not be used by anyone with any mental illness, eg: schizophrenia, bipolar, etc. Warm Regards, David Source(s): http://www.yapko.com/ Data Entry Home Based job There are a lot of opportunities for those seeking Online & Offline Data Entry, Typing, Conversion & Form Filling Jobs. http://www.profitfromnet.com/ http://www.profitfromnet.com/parttimejob... http://www.profitfromnet.com/ http://www.profitfromnet.com/parttimejob... http://www.profitfromnet.com/ http://www.profitfromnet.com/parttimejob... I am a professional HypnoAnalyst. Mr McKenna bless him, means well. It's just a disclaimer, that's all. Methods used in hypnosis tend to give your mind a lift, and would definitely be of benefit to anyone in need of that. Feeling good/better no matter for how short a time, can only be good for you... right? MIAH Neil French, author and hypnoanalysis lecturer I can think of a very good reason. Depression may be the result of traumatic events that the person experienced. In order to cope the person has suppressed these memories and may not have any awareness of what has happened to them. Accidentally awakening those memories could result in causing health problems for the individual. I am somewhat a victim of such an occurrence. I wrote something while being physically very ill. People have enquired about what I wrote and awakened the memories of these impossible but true events that happened. I find it very difficult to emotionally and psychologically cope with these memories because they include bizarre aspects to a traumatic physical illness as well as psychic experiences and even some spiritual. I did not remember most of these things until people started enquiring and know now that I experienced many, many things. The only way I can cope is to forget them again, which I am sure I will when people stop asking me about them. Some experiences are deeply profound, can not be rationalised away. |
