How do you begin an exercise regimen when you aren't mentally capable.? I am on meds. for depression and .... |
they don't help me to be able to get started. You could try going for a swim. You still sweat when you swim (so be sure to stop and drink water or something to replenish your electrolytes), but it's non-impact and the cool temperature of the water can't hurt. Exercise helps depression too, so hopefully this well help you some! Good luck! Start small. Go for a walk. Go for a longer walk. Do things you enjoy, cycling, swimming, whatever. It your satisfaction doesn't outdue your work, you'll never stay with it. You have to just do it. Everything is in your head. The meds should help you function enough to make decisions for yourself, but they are not going to motivate you to get up off the couch and do it. So just do it. I read in a book once that if you are feeling like you don't want to exercise, just commit to 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes you still want to go back to the couch, then do it. Most times, however, getting through that first 5 minutes will help you get moving for the rest of your workout. Good luck. And remember, you have the power to be happy. You have the power to be fit. Take control and do it. consult with your doctor exercise may be dangerous while taking certain meds Talk to your doctor. Hi There, nice name lol Sorry to hear you're struggling with depression at the moment, I can relate to that my love and wish you all the best, there's definately light at the end of the tunnel but I bet it feels too far away doesn't it. believe it or not if you could get yourself moving excercise will actaully help to improve the way you feel. I know from experience that its difficult to get moving sometimes but trust me if you can really push yourself to do even the shortest routine before long you will find that you feel the benefit. You will have more energy and sleep better, you will wake more refreshed not just from excersice but because you are sleeping better, you'll start to look better and I dont just mean figure wise I mean skin tone and texture. Try buying a DVD and start off by doing 10 mins to get you in to it then gradually increase it. I've just bought an excercise ball and I cant wait to get going but I'll only do 10 mins, then up to 20 before I know it I'll be well away. Also, if your meds are making you feel really lethargic and lacking in get up and go you should go back and see you GP becaus ehtey may not be the ones for you. Meds for depression should help you to feel "normal" again not worse. Take care my friend and keep smiling xxx Dance to your favorite music in your own way.climb up and down the stairs |
