I am 17 and think that I鈥檝e been down for the last 2 years, how can i tell if it's depression? |
I constantly deal with food, gain and lose weight. My encounters with the(mostly)opposite sex, include a decent amount of vodka, public park or toilet, and often not recalling the event or my make-out for the evenin.I dress rather provocatively and always seek male attention, always tired and lack of energy, sometime feel very stressed and anxious. I don鈥檛 have true friends, feel lonely and an outcast. I am somewhat apathetic. I used to be an a+ student, andmy grades have dropped down severely. I have difficulties concentrating on anything, even on daily chores; my room and life seem to be always messy. I also have a major issue relating to my father. I frequently fight with family members. In the past I鈥檝e cut myself, with no purpose of suicide, even though I think about it and about life being meaningless. I feel rather worthless, question my intelligence, talent and creativity.I truely don鈥檛 know if it鈥檚 depression or pessimism, desperation or being spoiled, since I have no obvious reasons. see a doctor they will know if you are depressed or not go see a docter Everyone feels sad or gets down from time to time, but sometimes it鈥檚 more than that. Sometimes, it can be clinical depression. Clinical depression affects more than 19 million Americans each year. Unfortunately, less than half of the people who have clinical depression seek treatment. Many people believe that it is a 鈥渘ormal鈥?part of life and that they will pull out of it on their own. Untreated depression causes unnecessary suffering and disruption in daily life and work, and costs about $44 billion a year in lost workdays, decreased productivity, sick leave and other costs. Depression is a real illness. The good news is that it can be treated, and that success rates for treatment are very high. KNOW THE SIGNS The signs and symptoms of clinical depression are: Persistent sad, anxious or "empty" mood Changes in sleep patterns Reduced appetite and weight loss, or increased appetite and weight gain Loss of pleasure and interest in once-enjoyable activities, including sex Restlessness, irritability Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as chronic pain or digestive disorders Difficulty concentrating at work or at school, or difficulty remembering things or making decisions Fatigue or loss of energy Feeling guilty, hopeless or worthless Thoughts of suicide or death If you experience five or more of these symptoms for two weeks or longer, you could have clinical depression. See a doctor or qualified mental health professional for help, right away. If you are supervising an employee who exhibits any of these symptoms and has frequent, unexcused absences, discuss the situation with the individual, but do not try to diagnose the problem. Suggest that the employee seek help from his or her doctor or from an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Seeking help is the healthy thing to do! For more information, visit the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill at http://www.nami.org/ (External Link) for links to local chapters, or the National Mental Health Association, 800-969-NMHA (6642) or visit www.nmha.org (External Link). The best advice I can give is to go seek professional help to, at least, have yourself evaluated for depression. From your description, it sounds like depression, but I don't have the qualifications to diagnose something like that. maybe its psychological depression - talk to ur M.D and stop tryin to seek male attention i bet u are pretty and intelligent a man doesnt need to show u that even though i dont know u dont think wat i said is bullshit You sound like you have borderline personality disorder. You need to seek immediate help. Look up borderline personality disorder on the internet. You can get help and be ok again. Good luck. At 17, you are going through an identity crisis. Do NOT look at it as depressed because if you do, you may wind up on antidepressants and you want to stay far away from that sh...T! Don t worry about what others think but you have to think about LESS of your problems and look around for those who are in worse situations then yours: the starving, the poor, the homeless. After your check those groups, you may feel pretty lucky after all. There is no doubt that you need to realize that life is beautiful and it will be that way for you if you look at what you have; NOT what you do not have> Who cares if you are not pretty or smart or creative? The world has too many of those people and not enough of the kind souls that get NO recognition of their acts of kindness and love. |
