Iam claustrophobic, my doctor prescribed anti depressions "Paxil& buspar" do you think i should take them Not necessarily, don't just automatically take your doctor's word as golden. If you're uneasy about it, by all means, get a second opinion. Doctors have a terrible tendency to overprescribe medications. This is partly because patients expect to get a prescription when they go to the doctor. A few months ago I went to the doctor stating clearly that I would just like her to tell me the benefits and drawbacks of using antidepressants to help me through some grief and depression. I told her I was not at all sure that I wanted to take them, but that I just wanted to get as much information as I could before I made my decision. Within 5 minutes, she had written me a prescription for Effexor, an antidepressant. I was so frustrated because I felt like she hadn't listened to my requests and simply scribbled the prescription on a pad of paper as a way of 'dealing with me.' Incidentally, I talked this over with my counsellor and I decided I did not want to go on the antidepressants. I never filled the prescription. Instead, I worked out a plan with my counsellor to try just talking with her more about my problems, and if that didn't work I would give the meds a try. But now I'm doing well, just with the counselling sessions. Don't take your doctor's word automatically. Seek a second opinion and develop an alternate plan for addressing your problem if you're wary of taking powerful drugs. Source(s): My life How are we supposed to know more then your doctor? If your doctor says so, then yes. Phobias are anxiety disorders. Paxil is not only an anti-depressant, but is also an anti-anxiety agent. I'm not familiar with the other one. If you have questions about whether you should take a drug, you should ask your doctor or pharmacist, not Yahoo Answers. You can't trust information you get here. To be honest, I'm not sure why you would want to ask this question at a website on the internet like this. Don't you feel that your doctor would know better than random people off the internet what medications are right for you? Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about taking the medications. I don't know, Are you depressed? Could be very helpful. Paxil is an anti-depressant and Buspar is a mild anxiolytic [breaks down anxiety]. |
