Is there actually any real help and support out there for people suffering with depression? |
In my experience, all you get is drug peddling shrinks and years "waiting" to see counsellors. No wonder people do themselves in. I agree that there is no real support out there for those of us who have to drag themselves through depression. I have been fobbed off with meds for 15 years and told it will get better - no help when you do not feel like living anymore. I have to fight to get heard and even then it is so frustrating.... everything in the mental health system works in slow motion..... Have been on effexor now for 4 years and the doc is STILL saying give them time...... The only real help I get is from my CPN who is an angel n disguise - she just listens and does not judge me. The fact that she is overworked and underpaid is a disgrace. She is aware of the difficulties of living with depression. I am currently off work due to a depressive episode and again the attitude of the doctors is - take time off that will do the trick..... argggghhhh.... All I want is to feel ok but the help is just not there..... Sorry for the rant just feel so frustrated... and those people who say depression is just a state of mind I would happily swap places any day..... Source(s): Depression for 15 years If that's all you want to see that's all you'll see. Help begins within you. Thats pretty much my experience too. Sometimes depression can be solved without drugs or doctors. Try being more outgoing and do things that you normally didn't do. Go out by yourself and make a big effort to take part in things around other people. Northern Maine Sportsman I see what you mean. I'm trying to support a charity called 'Mind' at the moment that will hopefully make things better for people with depression. |
