What can you do to curve depression?

I realize that depression is part of the human condition. I want to lessen the effects.

Counseling I believe is crucial, also proper eating lifestyle, exercise helps tremendously it releases naturally chemicals in your brain that you get artificially through antidepressants, proper sleep patterns, meditation and developing something to look forward to daily and long term Source(s): Been there done that, suffer from depression myself and have worked my way off of any medications through the "work" listed above and prayer through God
EXERCISE! Exercise creates endoporphines in the body. I am ALWAYS super happy after I excercise. It's like a drug. WOO HOO

(...I have depression in my family and have suffered with it as well, but I know how to stay away from it now...so take my advice)

Oh...and it always helps to make wise choices who you love, who you trust, and with your own heart. (wink!)
to lessen the effect of depression...you should stop thinking of the bad things as much as possible... always think possitively...always look at the brighter sides of things/life...be optimistic ...
you won't get very depressed if you won't think of depressing things that much..."don't take things too seriously" hehehe...
There are many answers to this question. It is totally individual. What might work for me may not work for you. Aside from it being a mental disorder it can also be brought on by outside sources. Take care of the source if this is the case other wise:

*Visit a Doctor (specialists preferred)
*Meditation
*Diet control
*Herbal Treatments
*Acupuncture / Acupressure
*Therapy (Aroma or other wise)
*Yoga
*Walking
*Personal activities that you enjoy.

The only person responsible for your happiness is you, so take care of you the best you can. Many blessings with your situation.
No, there is no hope. You said it yourself. It's part of the human condition. To deny depression is to deny being human. Taking up God is a drug. It's a denial of your vary existence. I know, you won't choose me as best answer.
i was very depressed for a long time, until i decided that i just had to stop. this is what worked for me:

getting out of the house a lot

an excercise plan

good, fast-paced music
dark chocolate (triggers something in your brain that makes you a tiny bit happier)

hug people as often as possible (it releases endorphins in your brain, which also makes you happier)

leave the lights on as bright as possible (also proven to lessen the effects of depression) and maybe the radio too, esp if you are alone at night

find a creative outlet (such as writing or drawing or music...)

always have somebody you can talk to, even if its one of your contacts on yahoo answers

good luck. i know how it can be.
