Is it true that depression is a need to go within yourself?

i have been feeling depressed, lost and hopeless for almost a year and i heard that depression is a need to go within yourself? if i took some time to think my life over and let the sadness consume me would it help, because then the emotion might go and i would feel better?

Depression is not a need to let sadness consume you.

A year is way too long to feel lost and hopeless, and you do not deserve to feel that way any more, not one more day.

Go to your GP. If he can't help with meds, he can refer you to someone who can. He can also refer you to someone for talk therapy.

Do this as soon as possible. Unfortunately, studies have shown (and I can't cite them at this very moment) that the longer a depressive episode goes untreated, the more likely it is that depression will recur.

If you like to read, pick up a copy of The Noonday Demon by Andrew Solomon. It's the only book about depression I've ever read, and I've read plenty, that isn't depressing.

Good luck to you, and, again, get to a doctor.
That is definitely a false statement. Depression is anger turned on the self. Anger related to hurt, disappointment, unmet needs/wants, etc... This unresolved anger is directed back at the self in the form of sadness or depression. Of course, I am speaking of adjustment type depression, which is episodic and experienced by all. Other depressive illnesses are directly related to brain chemistry issues i.e. serotonin and norepinephrine levels.
wake up
there is a world out there
enjoy it
ex NY person but you need to adjust and have some fun.
