I think I am suffering from depression?.?

I am 21 and believe I have symptons of depression. I will go into detail below;

-I have been on medication for anxiety for a while now, but I think my problem has developed into a more serious form of depression. I am constantly worried about anything from exams to global warming, and the medication (diazepan) no longer alleviates these feelings.

-I can not maintain a regular sleep pattern. It takes me up to five hours to get to sleep although I have found that once I do drift off I can sleep for 14-15 hours without waking. During the time I am awake, I constantly feel tired.

-I have not left my house, except to go to work, for 2 months now.

-Perhaps most important, I constantly feel sad and like there is nothing to live for. I dont see myself forming relationships, and am also losing many friends.

I would like to see a psychiatrist but dont think I could afford it. Does anyone have any constructive advice?

Some places offer free counselling, and by the way, seeing your doctor costs nothing! It sounds like you definatley have depression, i know what its like becuase i have too. How about talking to a close friend, or just someelse you trust e.g. a family member. But I know that can be hard. Apart from that, all i can say is that you need to get whatever new feelings and emotions you are having asssed as soon as possible before they get any worse. Good Luck! Firstly, consult your doctor and let him know about your prescribed drugs and how they are no longer working.

You should start off things a little at a time. Start by doing something fun for example, sports. Physical activity is proven to help alleviate your mood.

If you need people to talk to, family members or close friends you can confide in are best. They may not be able to help you but confiding in someone who is willing to lend an ear works wonders. :)

Then, go out and inject some fun back into your life! :) Go for movies, maybe take up a new hobby. I'm sure you can make some new friends this way. It will also take some time off from you being alone. And smile always! Don't focus on the negative things in your life.

Be positive and good luck! :D
