I can't seem to talk to a dr. about my depression. what's a good way to bring it up? |
I have made several appointments, and I go but can't bring myself to tell them anything. I have been treated for migraines, sleep deprivation, ect. but when they ask about depression I always lie and I don't know why. I think I have a generalized anxiety disorder, and have for probably 10 years, but I CAN'T seem to talk about it. That is part of anxiety, bring a list of complaints and just give it to your doctor, make sure that depression is first on the list. Good luck. I too have a hard time opening up about my problems finally I made an appointment with a therapist , when there yesterday and couldnt STOP talking when you are ready.. it will happen You need to suck it up and tell him. The sooner you get it treated the sooner you can live a normal, happy, healthy live. Just do it... just think once its out in the open then it can get fixed! Yeah, write a short letter, go into the room and explain that as you find it hard to talk, you have written it down. They should not see that as anything particularly unusual. But, for your sake, make sure the letter is OPEN & HONEST. I wish you well. I had a similar problem. For years I couldn't talk to anyone about anything like that. My boyfriend finally pursuaded me and he came with me to the doctor and he sat with me while I said it all. And do you know what? I am so glad I did it. I'm waiting for a counsellor at the moment and I'm glad. Try to tell yourself that you only need to do this once and it's out there. You just have to say this one little thing - 'actually, yes, I think I may have depression but I find it very difficult to talk about' - and it's out there. Please try, the fact that you're making the appointments with intent is a good sign. Just muster all of your courage and just blurt it out. You only have to say it once and it's finally done. You can do it! ,A good way to bring it up is to start asking him about migraines, sleep deprivation. You can also say i have a friend with depression and she do not know what to do,ask it he has any suggestion, as you go on you will get comfortable and than you can tell him that that person is you and that you just did not know how to open up to him, he will know what to do from there and than you say well i would like to know what really going on with my life. |
