How do you talk to a doctor about depression? |
I think I've been depressed for about a decade. I would like to just end it, however I have people I have to rake care of. I guess my question is, if I go to the doctor what do I say? You tell him that you are having a hard time dealing with life and he will give you a questionnaire to fill out. Then he will give you medication based on your answers, and if that doesn't help you will have to actually talk to him. Just be honest and remember that most cases of depression are caused by a chemical imbalance, it is not a mental disease, it is medical. Do not be embarassed. Source(s): Loving my LEXAPRO! just tell the Dr how it is=there is help for you in a lot of ways you will find out about Tell him exactly what you just said here. Depression can be treated with medication and/or therapy. So don't delay anymore. go to a counsler and they will do the questions for you and you just answer be very truthful or it will be no good. You tell the doctor how you feel.Your mental status also effects your physical health. So tell him how you feel mentally and physically. Just spit it out. I think you'd be surprized at just how many people, particularily care-givers, suffer from not just depression but deep depression. Explain your situation and tell him / her everything. And try not to let the social stigma of depression influence you. I know so many people in denial of their dis-ease (which is all it is) because of what others will think. The fact is, they aren't fooling anyone. They need help and those around them know it. Good on you for taking that first step. That's the toughest one. |
