Depression Disability?

I have suffered depression for 7 years, off (mild) and on (severe). Right now I am in a severe stage coupled with extreme anxiety and social phobias and OCD. I have a psychiatrist who said I am borderline schizo (not true). I have schizo meds which help w/ my OCD (fear of dying, choking).

I have a job. I am not going back to work because I can not do my job at this point. I have not quit, but an seriously thinking about it. I do need the insurance to see psychiatrist and meds.
I need the money too for bills, but at this point, I can't go back to work. It has been 2 months on Short term disability from work.

Should I quit my job and try for Soc Sec Disability or keep my job and stay on short term? I need to find a new doctor and find better meds/way of coping. What do I tell my job? What do I do?

All I know is not quit your job. Going to work helps you stand on your feet and life will have purpose. Staying at home means that there will be no difference between day or night, summer or winter,... Hang on to your job. If you need to explain it to your supervisor, you can ask your doctor to write a letter and hand it to your supervisor while you explain your problem the way that he/she can understand it and have sympathy (I am not talking about feeling sorry) to know how keeping this job is important for your health and at the same time knows that there are times that you need to get off.
Good luck
Find a counselor that you feel comfortable with to discuss your problem. They may be able to offer you a better solution.
I would not quit my job because if you even qualify ( which i doubt because they don't think that depression can be disabling)for SSD it could be years before you even get it. If your employer is understanding and you can stay on short time disability maybe that will give you the time you need to find a new doctor to help you so maybe you can go back to your job after you get the help you need.
See depression, anxiety, social phobia, and OCD, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... on pages 2, 6, 9, and 7. See a new doctor ASAP, seek more time for the treatments to take effect, and advise your work when you know. Try to keep your job, if you possibly can: you will have a better life than otherwise.
Here's the problem. It takes 6 months to 3 years to get on SSD or SSI. However, if you are able to work more than x amount, you are not qualified. What are you supposed to do in the mean time? I don't have the answer for you. I would suggest that you call an attorney that will give you a free consultation that specializes in SS claims.
