Does anyone know about HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and if it is used to treat depression? HCG is a hormone that is found in a pregnant woman's bloodstream and is produced by the placenta that helps things in pregnancy move along. This is the definition I found on the net: Human chorionic gonadotropin (or hCG) is the hormone that prolongs the lifespan of the corpus luteum as well as stimulates production of progesterone, another hormone essential to maintain the pregnancy. This is also the hormone pregnancy tests (blood and urine) detect. Source(s): http://www.google.com/url?sa=x&start=3&o... HCG is a hormone released by an embryo when a woman is pregnant. The hormone is responsible, in part, for stopping the menstrual cycle. It is also the best way to determine a pregnancy aside from a blood test. This is the first I've ever heard of for the treatment of depression . Check out the link for it's other uses. http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-11192-hc... |
