How can u cure major depression without taking meds??? |
i have major depression and i found out about 3 months ago. I dont want to take meds for it and i really dont want to talk to a srink what should i do. I need to find out better ways to help cure me of this. ok there is no cure, its going to be with you the rest of your life, sorry for the bad news. but the good news is you can deal with it yourself. i have major depression myself and i do not take meds, and only took meds for six days and they made me super sleepy so i said forget it. i was diagnosed back in nov of 2005 and i am doing just fine. what you have to do is sit down and pick your brain (thats what a psychologist will do anyways) find out why you are depressed, what causes the depression to come on (like for me when i get really tired i start letting things get to me), how do you feel about yourself?? just really think about it and get to know yourself. do you have low self esteem, do you hate your life, do you regret things in life, etc. once you have actually gotten to the root of your depression, the cause of it, then you can start to fix it. and also dont hide it, tell family, freinds, coworkers, etc about it, the more you talk about it the more comfortable you will be with it and learn to live with it. have fun with it too, make jokes about it and one last thing, learn about it. if you ever need to talk, or want more of my story, just email me, i am here for you and will help you through where it wont control your life. good luck!!! meds can be good and there is nothing wrong with taking them. Exercise can help. Run or jog several miles a day-- it will help. There may be something in your life that you cannot deal with properly-- if you can eliminate it. find someone to talk to that has similar interests as your own and share you idea's and feelings. For the moment you can try by making a list of things you want to do like let's say hobbys of things you once found fun or just anything you'd like to do, try distracting your mind with watching movies, reading a book, excercise and take vitamins just make a routine for yourself besides we're weren't all born with depression it might as well drift away with time, wish you luck :) Major depressive disorder is a common mental health diagnosis, but not so common among teenagers as yourself. I am sure that whoever diagnosed you would have given some suggestions. I take medication and have been in therapy since I was 12. "Shrinks" aren't all that bad. Maybe you should speak with a parent or another adult who you trust. Good luck and take care of you! Dee Try exercising, taking St John's Wort (available at health food stores), meditating, etc. Many people have success with that. But if it doesn't work, please at least talk to a therapist. And if THAT doesn't work, be open-minded about medication. I understand why you don't want to take drugs - they can really screw with you, and they aren't terribly effective. But for some people, they are a life-saver. I believe that one has heal his/her ownself. There is a great book called "Feeling Good" by David D. Burns, M.D that goes into thinking patterns that typically are characteristic of those with some kind of a depression. If you believe that you can change you can. try the website: http://www.feelinggood.com/ http://www.feelinggood.com/ |
