Whats the best way to cure depression after trauma ?? |
Whats the best way to cure depression after trauma ?? I went through Hurricane Andrew and its aftermath and I also had my wife kidnapped out of my arms on New Years Eve 2002 by a corrupt mental health agency, so I know how you feel by experiencing depression after trauma. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the best thing you can do is take medication and also go through therapy with a qualified therapist. Both are tools in your recovery and both work well together. Regardless of the age or circumstance, I am sorry that you went through whatever trauma you went through. But I just qualified myself and if I can get better, then you can too. And by the way, there is a medication that you can ask for that has helped me a lot. My psychiatrist is Indian and fought against the Pakistanis, so we both have/had experienced PTSD in our lives. We are both helped by a drug called Cyproheptadine. Although the drug is an antihistamine such as Benadryl, there are slight chemical differences that can help with nightmares and intrusive thoughts, with are the cause and not necessarily the result, of panic attacks. The drug helps in controlling nightmares and also helps you remove an emotional attachment from a memory. My thoughts are with you and I hope you feel better. Source(s): Personal experience. Therapy. Therapy would be a good idea. Cognitive behavoiral therapy is just as good as medication in curing most cases of depression. In therapy you should learn some things to help you deal with your depression, such as making sure you exercise, participate in hobbies you enjoy, eat right etc. If your depression is just too much, you may want to consider medication in addition to therapy. All depression involves the so called 'chemical imbalance' of the brain no matter what caused the depression. If you get desperate, medication is around. For most people, even those with severe clinical depression, medication does not need to be used for longer than 6 to 12 months. partyyy :) xxxx Humor, laughter, exercise, hard work and the payoff that comes with it. Reading, learning, traveling. Sitting on your as$ and watching TV and movies (hey, it's good to relax now and then). I think of medication as a last resort. It's not like this is a chemical imbalance. |
