Can depression ever be cured? |
or will it always stay with you ive been suffering with it for 10 years now and it just doenst seem to lift. has anybody ever 'got' better? im just so fed up of it all there is no solid cure for it, just meds to help deal with it. I am bipolar and yes its very hard to deal with but without my meds I probably wouldnt be here today. depression is like stairs 1 2 10 after 10 no one knows what there is In some cases, episodes of depression are circumscribed. In other words, you may have a a couple of episodes over the course of a lifetime which are quickly responsive to treatment, and remit entirely in relatively short order. In other cases, however, the depression is more chronic (e.g., Major Depression - recurrent). In these sorts of cases, the depression is TREATABLE, but probably not "curable", in the strictest sense of the word. Keep in mind, however, that MANY illnesses follow this course. Consider diabetes, for example. Most Type 1 diabetics will be on insulin (or its equivilent) for the rest of their lives. This does NOT mean that they are "doomed" or that they cannot lead full, happy lives. The same can be said of chronic forms of depression. The key is finding the right medication (or combination of medications) that work for YOU. Adding psychotherapy is also crucial. In addition, be sure that you have definitively ruled out and/or addressed any other physiological causes of depression (e.g., thyroid disorders) which could be contributing to or exaccerbating your condition. occupational hazard look at life differently. your only here for say max 100years. so try to forget the bad things and live life to the max without going too far. Depression can get better. Technically they have no "cure", unfortunately. I too suffer from depression and have now for some 14 years but I have times when it is better than others and it is definitely better than it used to be. I know you are probably on medications but have you talked to your Dr. lately about how you are feeling and possibly changing your meds. I know for me therapy has helped me the most even though it can take a little while sometimes to find a really good therapist you can trust. It is well worth it. Have you tried going to local groups for depression and meeting people you can identify with or meeting people in online groups for depression. Things can and will get better. Don't give up. Hope you are feeling better soon~ personal experience |
