Psychotic depression. What should a person do for treatment ?

I did not know I was psychotic till last week when for no reason I started blaming my father for things that happened 30 years ago. I couldn't stop myself and didn't feel like it was me who was yelling and screaming. I really hurt his feelings and I have so much guilt associated with it. Now I am worried I could hurt myself as punishment. I feel really messed up in my head but dont really know what I can do.

Please offer suggestions that are helpful and sensitive.

You did the first right thing by discussing how you really feel during those events.
I am in doubt if the forums are going to help you as much. I would strongly suggest talking to counsellor, mental health professional or psychiatrist.
Behavioral, cognitive and pharmacological therapy can improve your life significantly.

Go out and have fun!!! nothing is to important . some day will all be dead. just one day at a time.
I'd talk to your regular doc and ask for advice, It's hard to know if this is a medical problem or one that should be treated primarily with counseling, so I'd let your doc screen you. It would be a good idea to apologize to your dad if you think it's appropriate, but make sure you are cooled off so you don't get into another rant.

Good luck to you, and as the other person said, if you are having tendencies toward self injury, you should see a doc right away (it's an emergency if you are already doing something or getting things together to do something. If you are just sort of thinking about it, see your doc tomorrow or the next day, is my opinion).
I have bipolar disorder& deal with this kind of thing a lot in my life
I am the highway. I am the night.
It doesn't seem to me that your actions were "psychotic" by any means. Believe me, I've had some psychotic breaks that were a doozy!

You mentioned depression in the heading too. Have you been diagnosed with any mental health illness by a doctor? We certainly can't and won't do that for you. Perhaps, when you are feeling better you can make an appointment. Please don't be so hard on yourself.

Good luck and take care of you!
