Depression medicine?

i just started taking medicine for depression
lexapro
has anybody had any experience with this or any medicine for depression?

I've taken Lexapro. From what I understand, it's the isomer of Celexa, another SSRI antidepressant, but it has less sexual side effects. I really liked the way it worked. Keep in mind, it's not like a cold medicine where a dose makes you feel better. Here's an explanation from Lexapro's website on how SSRI antidepressants work:

How SSRIs Work
The brain chemistry of depression and anxiety is not fully understood. However, a growing body of evidence supports the view that people with these disorders have an imbalance of the brain's neurotransmitters. These are chemicals in the brain that allow nerve cells to communicate. One of these neurotransmitters is serotonin. An imbalance in serotonin may be an important factor in the development of depression and anxiety.

* Serotonin is released from one nerve cell and passed to the next. In the process, some of the serotonin released is reabsorbed by the first nerve cell
* SSRIs block the reabsorption of serotonin into the first nerve cell
* It is this blocking action that causes an increased amount of serotonin to become available at the next nerve cell
* This is how SSRIs affect the balance of serotonin in the brain

Generally, you're looking at 4 to 6 weeks before it's fully functional, though you may experience benefit before then. You should report any side effects you experience to your doctor. Every drug works differently with every person - in fact, I was on Lexapro successfully, went off, and went back on later, and the second time, it didn't work. Instead, I used Cymbalta which is an SSRI and Norepinephrine antidepressant, which made me sick as a dog for two weeks and then worked like a charm. It's a process, trying to find the right drug in the right dose. Good luck to you. Source(s): http://www.lexapro.com/about_lexapro/how...

I am on a different type of meds for it called cyclobenzapryne and if you begin taking the meds you must finish them in order for them to do you any good and you have to take them everyday but if you start experiencing side effects like hearing voices and I am serious here, or you have suicidal thoughts or anxiety you need to tell your doc of these because sometimes the side effects are different with the diff types of meds or if you notice that they dont seem to be working then you need to discuss that with your doc as well
I was on lexapro for a yr and a half. It helped with depression but it messed with my blood pressure and I started fainting a lot.
i wouldn't take it......some people get worst in depression......try the natural way coca tea
