My doctor has told me to claim disability because it is quite difficult to work with my recurrent depression. |
I donot have enough work credits, would I be able to draw disability on my husband's social security insurance? Thank you so much for your help. I am so sorry to hear you suffer from recurrent depression. I to suffer from depression. However, with medication you can live a normal life. It does take time and a lot of patience to find the correct medication for you. And then sometimes they only work for 6monthes to a year and you may have to switch to something else. I know alot of people are telling you to get a lawyer, but in all honesty, I really don't think you need one. I was in a car accident two years ago and was unable to walk due to severe injuries to my right leg. I had to go on disability. I went through the entire process in only 4 monthes. I was not turned down the first time like everyone says you will be, everyone told me that also. As long as you give them all the appropriate information, all your doctors information, the process really shouldn't take longer than 6 monthes. Good Luck and I hope you stay healthy. Your work credits really dont have anything to do with it, they go by your entire lifes work experience. If you haven't worked alot over your life, then the amount you will be eligible to collect will be low. wow i cant believe u can get off working by being depressed. i am depressed and i still have to work, maybe i can pull that off too if i go to the doctor...let me know how to do it, and i'll love u forever. Make an appointment with Binder and Binder and they will find out if you are eligible. I know 4 people who are receiving disablity, 3 of which on mental illness or disability (which would be you), and one on physical. The one who used Binder & Binder went through the process fairly quick (less than 2 years) to get benefits. Getting disability can be rather difficult and will take longer if you do it by yourself (5 years or more). Make sure that your doctor puts it in writing that you can't work do to your disability. If not, expect it to take more time to get approved. One person did do it on their own without legal help and got it in less than 9 months (a real mentally ill person just by looking). if you are gonna try to claim disability for social security your best best is going to be to use a lawyer to help even with a docters recommandation. most people get denied on the first claim except for the people who dont seem to need it. i dont think the work credits really matter my brother is on disablity and social security and he has only worked 2 months in his entire life. hope all goes well for you. chronic depression is an aweful thing to suffer from Mental Illness is considered a disability if it is chronic enough to cause social problems. There are different types of depression and usually the person doesn't realize they are in that state. People say oh I am so depressed, that is emotionally not clinically. Go to your local SSA office, you will be denied the first few times that is normal. You do how ever have to be unemployed due to the disability for over a year to get the benefit. You will need the note from the doctor. Good luck If you live in Oklahoma email me and I will help. I have a contract with the department Of rehab service in Ok. and will be glad to assist you in anyway. If you contact the lawyer you will end up payin them a percentage of the benefit. My aunt did that and the check was sent to the lawyer and she picked up the difference. So be careful in that area. |
