Birth Control, Periods and Depression? |
I'm about a month shy of my 16th birthday and this past year I was diagnosed with a mild case of depression possibly triggered by an iron deficiency. When I'm on my period it feels as though I'm always in a bad mood, that I'm about a second away from ripping off someone's head when they say anything. For that reason, I feel awful because I hate being mean and rude. Would birth control be good option though I'm on anti-depressants? This site has some info on the subject: http://www.magnetic-diet.com/depression/... I dont know that birth control would help. For me birth control makes me more depressed at times, it really doesnt make me happier at all. I wouldnt suggest it. Ask your doctor. And I think most of us are afraid to answer bcuz of what you said......JK! Good luck and feel better! Before you take the drastic route of anti-depressants, one thing you need to understand first. When women are menstruating, the hormones in their systems can really mess up things - a lot of women are moody, grouchy, irritable, cranky, whatever you want to call it. Its called PreMenstrual Syndrome and is very common. Birth control pills will regulate the hormones during the month, so you may not have such drastic mood swings. Or you could try taking a natural supplement called evening primrose oil (available in most drug stores or health food stores). It's been used by women all over the world for centuries to help minimize all the symptoms of PMS (mood swings, headaches, bloating, splotchy skin, sleeplessness, irritability, etc.). You may need to take it for a few months to notice any change (but a friend of mine started taking it and within about a week she felt more normal, even during her period). I believe in trying the natural way first, then gradually going up the ladder of invasion (like drugs) only if necessary. shouldnt be an issue to be on the pill. |
