Depression - Therapy/Medication doesn't help. Keep trying?

I have suffered from depression for about 28 years now. I have tried several different medication, and have been in different types of therapy. Obviously, it must be treatment-resistant depression. Should I try again to find a therapist or a new medication? I fear if I don't, I will go insane. Anyone else here have a similar experience?

The key is to keep on trying, never give up hope. Unfortunately getting help with depression, is like trying on shoes, you have to keep on trying different medications and therapist until you find the right fit and which ones work best for you. I tried almost every single depression medication out there before finally finding the one that didn't make me sick, and helped my depression. I also found that to be the same with therapist, if you keep on trying different ones, you will eventually find the one that you click with, and that can help you. Please don't give up, keep searching for a new therapist, and try different medication's until you find one that works for you. It is a difficult process, but so worth it, you deserve to feel good. I hope this helps :-) Source(s): My own personal experience with depression.
You might want to consider seeing an alternative health care provider such as a naturopath.
I am having the exact same experience. Only I was diagnosed with Borderline/Histrionic Personality Disorder. Over the last few years: you name the med: I've taken it most likely except Lithium & I have been hospitalized twice. Dr's won't condone it but I have found Marijuana in addition to my Xanax helps to tkae some of the edge off b/c I can't drink. I'd really like to get some Restoril. You're NOT alone girl!!!
I am in the same boat. Over 25 years, and battling depression all the time. I have taken all sorts of drugs, been in therapy with many people, both individual, and in groups. I have been through alternative therapies, and taken alternative medicines, and still no help.

I believe that there has to be something from within oneself, which will help, like having better feelings of self-worth. I don't know how to do it, though I have read many self-help books as well.

I wish I could help you find out what you can do for yourself, because with all the things that I have done, I find that the key to a "cure" for depression must come from within.

Humor might help, so here's a joke.

A Buddhist monk in NYC goes to a hot dog vendor and says, "Make me one with everything."
He gives the vendor a $20 bill, after the hot dog vendor prepares his frankfurter. Mustard, catsup, relish, saurkraut, onions, chili. This dog is so loaded, it must weigh a ton!
Well, it's the busy time, and there are many customers, and being in a rush, the hot dog vendor takes care of them.
The Buddhist monk eats his hot dog, and is contemplating another, but remembers that the hot dog vendor did not give him his change. The monk asks the hot dog vendor, "I gave you a twenty, where's my change?"
The hot dog vendor says,"Change, my friend, must come from within."
